Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered many other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
